DTF transfer have shiny patches? Our quick guide on how to fix it

Have you ever pressed a DTF transfer and notice shiny patches or patchy glossy spots (especially over the dark areas)? No worries, in this blog, we've got a quick and easy fix for you!

How to getting rid of shiny patches

Grab the affected DTF transfer.

If you have a Teflon sheet, that is ideal, otherwise if not you can grab a piece of brown craft paper or even repurpose a clean paper bag (make sure it's free of ink or glue residues). If you don't have any of this available, you can still follow the instructions below and resolve the issue.

Then follow these two simple steps:

Step 1

Place your garment on your press again, with the DTF transfer facing up. Place the Teflon sheet or paper over the transfer area.

Step 2

Press again for another 10 seconds.

This extra step helps to matte the transfer and absorb any oily spots that might be causing the shine. After this quick press cycle, your DTF transfer should look clean and finished, with no unwanted glossy patches.

What happens if you still have shiny patches?

You can repeat the same steps over again until they disappear. Sometimes it is a case of testing a few things out, and discovering which level of pressure, and how many seconds works best for your particular garment and heat press.

How does this DTF printing shiny patch hack work?

Sometimes, DTF transfers can leave a shiny finish due to excess oils or residues. Other times it's because moisture has been trapped between the transfer and garment during the pressing process. Some fabrics don't allow for the moisture to pass through them, so it gets trapped. The Teflon sheet, brown craft paper or paper bag absorbs these residues, making your design smooth and matte.

So, the next time you notice shiny patches on your DTF prints, remember this handy trick. It's simple, and effective, and ensures your prints look professional and as flawless as they deserve, every time.
